The best features of Pimcore

The product portfolio of Pimcore consists of free open source software solutions for multi-client data management as well as cross-channel content management and e-commerce.

Pimcore includes functionality for Product Information Management (PIM), Web Content Management (WCM), Digital Asset Management (DAM) and e-commerce. The platform is available free of charge under the open source GPLv3 license and the proprietary PEL license (Pimcore Enterprise License). Pimcore is now used more than 80,000 times and in 174 different countries. It has been translated into 18 different languages.

We asked the asioso specialists Ninoslav Jaric (Software Engineer), Mladen Maksimovic (Software Engineer) and Goran Stefanovic (asioso Partner and Digital Business Architect) what they liked best about this system.

Editor: Why Pimcore?
Goran Stefanovic: Pimcore is a flexible open source enterprise content platform that offers our customers many possibilities to cover their needs in the areas of WCM, PIM, MAM and e-commerce. The provided functional range extends further beyond pure content management. Customers have the possibility to use Pimcore as a pure PIM and e-commerce solution. In addition, the system has an integrated marketing automation solution with newsletter functions, analytics integration and customer targeting.

Mladen Maksimovic: Pimcore is based on Zend and is easy for the developer to understand. It offers extensive possibilities of extension. The data structure of Pimcore is ingenious. Unstructured data such as pages are administered via "Documents". Under "Assets" there is a digital asset management, which can compete with the big players in the industry in the range of functions. The third type of content is "Objects", where you can store structured data.

Editor: What does structured data mean?
Mladen Maksimovic: Structured data refers to all content that has a certain structure and is used in a structured way within these content objects. This type is used for news, blog, social media, PIM and e-commerce content. The data classes can be configured in the system so that we can define the data architecture directly in the system.

Goran Stefanovic: So far I have gained a lot of experience with different systems. I have to admit that I have rarely seen such a well thought-out data structure as is the case with Pimcore.

Editor: From the name, one could assume that it is primarily a pure PIM?
Mladen Maksimovic: I agree with you there. But Pimcore is definitely not just a PIM. The PIM functionalities are very good and easy to map due to the flexible data structure. After you log in, you quickly realize that Pimcore is not just a PIM, but much more.

Ninoslav Jaric: I think the name is very well chosen. I can say that there is a good PIM logic at the core of the system. But I agree that Pimcore is definitely not just a PIM.

Editor: You mentioned that Pimcore offers an integrated marketing automation solution?
Goran Stefanovic: That's right. Pimcore has tools that are specifically designed for a marketing automation solution. Pimcore has a native integration of Google Analytics. This allows the editor to view the data analysis directly in the system in real time without having to switch to Google Analytics. We also have an integrated personalization and targeting solution. The editor can define target groups in the system and set criteria for them. If the visitors meet these criteria, a different content is automatically played without the editor having to create separate sections or pages.

Ninoslav Jaric: Pimcore has its own newsletter solution. It allows companies to create and manage their email marketing campaigns. The great thing about it is that the newsletters can be populated directly with content from Pimcore and the success of the email marketing campaign can be measured directly in the system. Personalization and targeting is also possible.

Editor: What about the support of mobile devices?
Mladen Maksimovic: The strict separation of data and layout makes it possible to play out the content in various output channels. I am not only talking about mobile devices, but also about all other channels such as social media, newsletters, OTT, etc.

Ninoslav Jaric: The native integration of various interface standards, especially the REST API, offers many possibilities to connect external applications and systems with Pimcore, but also to play content through it. Therefore Pimcore can be called a headless CMS or CaaS (Content as a Service).

Editor: What is the main reason why asioso relies on Pimcore?
Goran Stefanovic: We deliberately chose this system because the possibilities of this system impressed us from the beginning. As mentioned before, Nico Rehmann (asioso CEO) and I had got to know many different systems over the years, but rarely a system as well thought out as Pimcore. Especially for editors this system is an enrichment. Since we want to offer our customers the best, we have strategically chosen Pimcore.
